Social & Scientific Systems, Inc. (SSS) is actively seeking a Statistical Analyst to perform detailed analyses, manage junior statisticians and interface with clients on projects related to a long-running statistical support contract to a federal government agency. The group consists of statisticians, mathematicians and computer analysts. The work includes evaluating current statistical methodologies and developing new approaches to analyzing data from rapidly evolving fields of application, such as toxicological screening data. In addition, you will contribute to the design of studies, direct and execute statistical analyses, interpret findings, and communicate results through oral and written scientific reports. There will be opportunities for publications in peer-reviewed journals both as lead and as collaborator.
Responsibilities
- Conduct scientifically sound and statistically defendable data analyses using SAS, R and/or other statistical software. Data come from evolving experimental protocols and may include complex correlation structures. Analysis methods could include generalized linear and nonlinear models, mixed models, non-parametric methods and uncertainty estimation techniques.
- Demonstrate significant innovation in approaching difficult problems. Remain abreast of and implement new methodological developments with potential applicability to project work, such as Bayesian approaches, decision analytic approaches, and causal analysis and computer intensive methods.
- Draft scientific presentations and manuscripts, protocols, and scientific methods sections of proposals and contracts. Implement appropriate approaches for displaying information.
- Manage junior statisticians by supervising research and assisting with writing for publication.
- Provide consultation to SSS colleagues and clients on study design, statistical power calculations, and statistical methodology and data collection techniques.
- Develop complex statistical analysis plans.
- Interact with clients and create final reports for clients.
- Provide support and expertise to computer programming staff, insuring data integrity and timely completion of projects.
- Work collaboratively with other team members and clients and provide leadership in developing and cultivating relationships with SSS colleagues and external clients.
- Serve as an ad hoc methodological and statistical consultant, as needed.
Qualifications
- PhD degree in Statistics or Biostatistics and at least 3 years of relevant experience.
- Demonstrated expertise with statistical methods and applications
- Expertise in complex data manipulation and advanced programming techniques in SAS, R and/or other statistical software.
- Experience with critical review and interpretation of scientific literature.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong critical thinking, problem solving and attentiveness to detail required.
- Experience consulting and managing clients
- Management experience for at least small groups
- Experience with statistical analysis of biological or environmental health data is preferred.
Scientific/technical writing experience.
