Data Engineer and Predictive Modeling positions at investment fund

Big League Advance, LLC (BLA) is an investment fund that provides minor league baseball players with the resources they need to help make their dream a reality. Players receive capital – not loans – and a player keeps the funds whether or not he ever makes it to the Major Leagues.  For players who make it to the Major Leagues, we share in their success.

We are currently exploring new opportunities within the world of sports where we can utilize our analytic capabilities to make an impact. In order to do so, we are looking to fill the following positions:

Data Engineer

Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain data pipelines
  • Manage ETL processes
  • Scrape, clean and store data from various different sources

Requirements:

  • Bachelors or Masters Degree in Computer Science, Statistics, or quantitative field
  • Proficient in at least one general-purpose programming language
  • Significant experience building and maintaining relational databases
  • Experience working in a modern, cloud-based ecosystem
  • Sports analytics experience preferred, but not required

 

Data Scientist / Predictive Modeler

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deploy predictive models/algorithms in the field of sports analytics
  • Research new methods to develop and improve sophisticated predictive models, staying adept with the latest research and techniques in the field
  • Analyze various data sets to identify statistically significant patterns and extract predictive features
  • Collaborate with a team of data scientists, engineers and analysts

Requirements:

  • Advanced level of proficiency with R and/or Python
  • Experience with SQL queries
  • Significant experience in predictive analytics
  • Skilled in generalized linear models, decision trees, gradient boosting, random forests, support vectors, Bayesian statistics, regularization, neural networks, ML techniques (especially feature engineering), Markov chain models, survival analysis, clustering, ensemble and stacking methods
  • PhD or Masters in Statistics, Machine Learning, Mathematics, Computer Science, Econometrics or similar degree preferred, but not required
  • Sports analytics experience preferred, but not required
