Tenure-Track Assistant Professor Position – University of Arkansas

The Department of Mathematical Sciences in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Statistics to start in August 2024. This is a standard nine-month faculty appointment.

The position is open to candidates with an active research agenda in Statistics or closely related fields. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated research potential in developing statistical methodology. However, all qualified candidates with research areas connected to statistics are encouraged to apply.

The Statistics group within the Department of Mathematical Sciences consists of faculty members with research interest in Bayesian methods, spatial statistics, uncertainty quantification, time series and biostatistics. There exist opportunities for research collaboration with the growing Applied Mathematics group within the department as well as with researchers in other departments across the campus.

The University of Arkansas has an interdisciplinary MS program in Statistics and Analytics and has launched an Institute for Advanced Data Analytics. The University has also started a BS in Data Science. The Department of Mathematical Sciences offers a BS in Mathematics with Statistics concentration. The graduate students enrolled in the PhD in Mathematics program have the option to pursue their doctoral research in Statistics.

The faculty hire is intended to maintain an active research and publication agenda and advise MS and PhD students on dissertation research. The successful candidate will also be expected to provide effective instruction and advising to a diverse population of graduate and undergraduate students while teaching graduate and undergraduate courses and to have a commitment to university service.

A Ph.D. in statistics or a closely related area is required.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.
