The Department of Statistics at the University of California invites applicants for a nine-month tenure-track Assistant Professor of Teaching position beginning on July 1, 2024. An Assistant Teaching Professor appointment is similar to a research-focused tenure-track Assistant Professor appointment and follows a parallel track, including regular, rigorous performance reviews and a tenure process that, if successful, leads to a tenured appointment. Advancement through the Teaching Professor ranks at the University of California is through a series of structured, merit-based evaluations, occurring every 2-3 years.
The Teaching Professor series emphasizes teaching excellence and is aimed at individuals who desire to focus on the development and implementation of modern and innovative teaching approaches, professional activities, university and public service, and scholarly work in statistics education. Duties will include, teaching 2 courses per quarter, curricular development, innovation in undergraduate teaching, supervision of teaching assistants, and participation in undergraduate research and other enrichment programs for the statistics and data science major. Particular topics of teaching will include introductory statistics, exploratory data analysis, machine learning, big data processing, data visualization, data science, and software technologies such as R, SAS, Tableau, SQL and Python.
