The Department of Statistics and Operations Research at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill invites applications for a postdoctoral research associate to start immediately. Initial appointment will be for one year with reappointment to a second year on satisfactory performance. This position will work with Dr. Richard Smith of the Department of Statistics and Operations Research and Dr. Eric Whitsel of the Department of Epidemiology on theĀ NIH-funded project The Epidemiology and Somatic Genomic Pathogenesis of Radon-Related Stroke. Radon is an inert gas that is widely distributed in the United States, but its radioactivity makes it a human health hazard. It is widely implicated as a causal factor in lung cancer but recent research has shown that the effects on cardiovascular outcomes including stroke may be just as great if not greater than its implications for lung cancer. The overall aim of theĀ NIH project is to investigate these relationships through a series of surveys and epidemiological analyses.
