The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) is seeking an outstanding Health Statistician to join the National Survey of Family Growth (NSFG) Team in its Division of Health Interview Statistics (DHIS). This position on the NSFG Team is within DHIS’ Survey Planning and Special Surveys Branch (SPSSB). The primary role of the NSFG Team is to oversee the design, conduct, and dissemination of the NSFG, a longstanding nationally representative survey focused on fertility, family formation, and reproductive health. This position’s key responsibility is to contribute to the design of NSFG questionnaires, the evaluation of data collected, the production of public-use data and documentation files, and the dissemination of statistical reports and related products based on NSFG data. Applicants will ideally have training or experience related to large-scale surveys or with conducting meaningful evaluation and interpretation of data related to fertility, sexual/reproductive health, family demography, or related subject areas.

Duties:
- Support the development and formulation of plans to accomplish survey/data systems objectives in a manner consistent with ensuring the statistical validity and relevance of data collected.
- Design questionnaires and other data collection instruments in keeping with best practices of survey design and the overall goals of the survey.
- Perform assignments to ensure the statistical validity of survey/data systems and to produce data and documentation files for public use.
- Participate with scientists and program consultants in various aspects of the survey design, data collection, and data dissemination process.
- Contribute to institutional review board and OMB clearances for survey protocol, survey content, and data dissemination.
- Collaborate in the writing of comprehensive statistical and analytic reports that require the use of sociological, behavioral science, demographic, and/or epidemiologic analytic techniques and evaluation, and application of the latest technology.
- Provide scientific advice and technical assistance to various public, private, and/or nonprofit health and/or health-related agencies and organizations.
- Work with public health officials and other scientists inside and outside of CDC.
