The Biostatistics Core at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) designated Tisch Cancer Institute (TCI) is currently seeking PhD Biostatisticians to fill one position of Assistant Professor in Biostatistics.
He/she will work closely with TCI members who are NCI funded physician investigators and researchers. This position entails collaborating on several projects with researchers and clinicians across the Mount Sinai Health System to provide guidance on statistical design and to critically review clinical trials, developed initiated internally and externally. He/she is also expected to guide statistical analyses of observational studies with standard and emerging statistical methods, report research findings in impactful journals, and write statistical sections in collaborative grants as co-investigator.
TCI Biostatistics core is embedded within the Institute of Healthcare Delivery Science (I-HDS), a trans-disciplinary research institute affiliated with the Department of Population Health Science and Policy. I-HDS mission is to improve the effectiveness, safety, and efficiency of healthcare for patients treated at Mount Sinai health system through analyses of electronic medical record data through a variety of observational and machine learning based analyses. TCI biostatisticians are welcome to get involved in I-HDS projects that encompass following clinical areas: Hospital epidemiology, Transgender Medicine and Surgery, Geriatrics, Nutrition, Respiratory Disease (Asthma, COPD, Lung disease, Sleep Apnea), Neurology, Psychiatry (Addiction, Aggression, etc.), Pharmacology, and Women’s health.
TCI and I-HDS provide Biostatisticians with excellent opportunities to develop professionally, which involves strong mentorship and participation in disseminating research findings through scientific publications and organization of symposiums.
Duties & Responsibilities:
· Collaborating with clinical and laboratory scientists to develop innovative and efficient clinical trial designs.
· Performing power and sample size calculations for clinical trial protocols and grant applications with ability to run simulations to assess operating characteristics of various designs.
· Providing quality review of statistical sections of clinical trial protocols and grant applications to ensure adequacy of design, sample size and analysis plans
· Presenting results and defending statistical findings, study design and analytical methods to internal (team statisticians, principal investigators) and external (sponsors and FDA) audiences.
· Practicing good statistical project management and data reproducibility, working within given deadlines.
· Utilizing knowledge of statistics and medical understanding to propose and perform additional analyses when appropriate to increase productivity of team
· Writing statistical methods sections of study reports and clinical publications.
· Maintaining and gaining new expertise in state-of-the-art statistical methods for design and analysis of clinical trials through literature review and attendance at workshops and professional meetings.
· Provide mentoring and training to less experienced staff.
Minimum Qualifications:
· PhD in Biostatistics/Statistics with collaborative experience.
· Strong SAS and/or R programming skills for conducting statistical simulations.
· Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
· Ability to work independently, under minimal supervision, and as part of a team.
· Ability to coordinate the analytical aspects of multiple projects at the same time.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Background in Oncology, either by education or professional experience.
· Experience in the utilization of Bayesian design and adaptive clinical trial designs.
