The University of Rochester’s Statistics Program seeks applications for the position of a full-time instructional-track (non-tenure) assistant professor, starting 7/1/2025, with a passion for teaching who will contribute to our undergraduate curriculum and growing Actuarial Studies certificate program. A successful candidate will have strong teaching skills and demonstrates a thoughtful and innovative approach to statistical pedagogy and strong computational experience to further engage students from diverse academic backgrounds.
The focus of this position will be on instruction. Teaching load will be five courses per academic year that are a mixture of both introductory and intermediate-level courses. This position will be involved in developing new courses relating to statistical computation and actuarial methodology, advise undergraduate students pursuing Statistics degrees or related certificates, and advise undergraduate research projects.
Qualifications
Ph.D. in Statistics, Biostatistics, or related field, or equivalent experience. Preferred candidates has a passion for college teaching and demonstrates an interest in innovative statistical pedagogy. Candidates should have strong pedagogical and course management skills for large lectures (200 or more students) as well as smaller courses (40 or fewer students). Experience with the statistical computing environment R is required, and familiarity with Python is strongly preferred.
