Assistant Professor – UNC-Chapel Hill

The Department of Statistics and Operations Research at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has an opening for a tenure-track position in statistics at the assistant professor level starting July 1, 2027.

Candidates are required to have a doctorate (or foreign equivalent) in statistics or a related field by the start date of the appointment. The Department is seeking candidates with a strong record of research in theoretical statistics, learning theory or adjacent areas, and the potential to develop an outstanding, independent research program. The Department is particularly interested in candidates whose work is motivated by challenges in artificial intelligence, machine learning, high-dimensional data and other modern applications. The successful candidate will be comfortable with teaching courses in statistics at the undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as introductory courses in the Department. Research that creates opportunities for interaction and collaboration with other groups across the Department and the University will be a positive factor in the consideration of candidates.
