Tenure-Track Assistant Professor position: Computational Environmental Science – University of West Florida

The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of West Florida (UWF) in Pensacola, Florida, invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor position specializing in Computational Environmental Science. We are seeking a teacher-scholar whose research aligns with one or more of the following areas: environmental hazards, sustainable energy, environmental toxicology, fluvial systems, soil science, and/or ecological conservation. This is a 9-month faculty position, with an expected start date of the August 8, 2025.
Responsibilities:
• Teaching Load: 3 courses per semester, fall and spring. The successful candidate will support our undergraduate and graduate programs by teaching student-focused courses in environmental and earth sciences content and actively contribute to curriculum development with currency and creativity in their area of specialization.
• Research Expectations:
o Establish and maintain an active and productive research program in computational environmental science.
o Consistently disseminate research findings through peer-reviewed publications.
o Actively pursue external funding and competitive grants to support research efforts.
o Provide research mentorship for undergraduate and M.S. students, integrating them into research projects.
o Engage in collaborative research with faculty in the department and across UWF.
• Service: Engage in diverse service roles that support the department’s success and align with the university’s mission
Qualifications:
• A Ph.D. in Environmental Science, Geography, Geology, Oceanography, or closely related field from an accredited institution by the start date of appointment.
• Demonstrated specialization in computational approaches to environmental science.
• Evidence of a promising research agenda, including a record of peer-reviewed publications and potential for obtaining external funding.
• Ability or potential in teaching both introductory and specialized courses in Environmental Science or Earth Science.
