The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Idaho State University invites applications for a full-time, 9 months, tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor in the area of statistics to join our faculty team beginning in August 18, 2025. The assistant professor will be strongly committed to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses, conduct high quality peer-reviewed research and make other contributions to the statistics curriculum based on their area of expertise. The assistant professor will also build a collaborative and interdisciplinary research program that enhances and complements the research of other faculty members in the College of Science and Engineering. All areas of statistics will be considered.
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics offers a Doctoral, Master’s, Bachelor’s, Minor and Associate’s degree in Mathematics, a Bachelor’s degree and Minor in Statistics and a Bachelor’s degree and Minor in Applied Mathematics. Our department also participates in a college-wide PhD in Engineering and Applied Sciences.
The department provides courses in mathematics, applied mathematics and statistics that serve students in many fields, including engineering, education, health professions, business and the sciences. A small student-to-faculty ratio affords close interaction with students. We also maintain a highly trained and research-active faculty with a balanced commitment to teaching, research and service, that conducts research in pure and applied mathematics and statistics. The Department of Mathematics and Statistics is currently home to 12 tenured or tenure-track faculty, 11 full-time instructional faculty, and several adjunct instructors.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The key responsibilities of this position are to teach introductory and advanced level statistics courses, to conduct interdisciplinary research, supervise graduate and undergraduate students, and provide service to the department, the college, the university, the community and profession.
Minimum Qualification:
Ph.D. in Statistics, Biostatistics or a closely related field must be completed prior to the start date of the appointment.
Preferred Qualifications
• An established strong publication record or demonstrated potential to maintain a productive research program
• Evidence of the potential to complement the research mission of the College of Science and Engineering
• Experience or potential to contribute to the development of data science curriculum
• Experience or potential to obtain external funding
• Experience in college/university level teaching
• Demonstrated potential to teach advanced level courses in statistical sciences
• Demonstrated interest and experience in teaching and mentoring diverse students
• Effective communication skills and ability to work within a team environment
