The Assistant Professor of Instruction will teach graduate-level courses with an emphasis on active, student-centered learning strategies. This position will be responsible for developing and designing course syllabi, instructional materials, assessments, and learning activities. Regularly assesses student performance, provides constructive feedback, and participates in course evaluations. Will engage in ongoing professional development, instructional technologies, and research in the field. Must also work collaboratively with faculty colleagues, staff and administrators.
The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching three fall courses, two spring courses, and providing professional development in best teaching practices for SJGS faculty in the summer. The three fall courses will be an introductory biostatistics service course, an introductory epidemiology course, and a second epidemiology course. The two spring courses will be a second biostatistics service course and biostatistics II for the MS in Applied Biomedical Data Sciences program. Engagement in educational research is a plus.
Job Responsibilities:
- Teach graduate-level courses with an emphasis on active, student-centered learning strategies to include courses in lecture-based instruction, hands-on or lab-based work, seminars, or other forms of experiential learning.
- Develop and design course syllabi, instructional materials, assessments, and learning activities that align with department goals and enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.
- Regularly assess student performance, provide constructive feedback, and participate in course evaluations and academic assessment initiatives to continually improve instructional quality.
- Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with advances in pedagogy, instructional technologies, and research in your field. Attend relevant conferences, workshops, and seminars to further develop teaching expertise.
- Contribute to service activities, including committee participation, curriculum development, and other academic service duties as required.
- Work collaboratively with faculty colleagues, staff, and administrators to improve teaching practices, curriculum development, and student success initiatives.
Minimum Education and/or Training:
- Ph.D. or equivalent required.
Minimum Experience:
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching, including a record of effective instruction at the undergraduate or graduate level preferred.
- Experience with online or hybrid course delivery preferred.
- Prior experience in curriculum design or faculty development preferred.
- Record of scholarship or professional activity in the field of instruction or pedagogy preferred.
Compensation
In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $78,000 – $139,360 per year for the role of Assistant Professor of Instruction.
