The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Texas Tech University invites applications for one tenure-track position in Statistics and related fields beginning Fall 2024. The department seeks candidates who engage in nationally visible scholarship, establish externally funded research programs, positively interact with the existing research groups, involve both graduate and undergraduate students in their research and outreach, and show excellence in teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
The ideal candidate would be performing research in Statistical Sciences, Data Science and/or Probability and Stochastics, with relevant applications to one of the following areas of national interest: climate and atmospheric sciences, virtual communication, digital imaging, finance, transportation, energy, and health. Service duties include program-building, as well as commitment to extracurricular activities. Service to the department, college, and university is expected.
Required Qualifications
A Ph.D. degree in mathematics, applied mathematics, statistics, or a related area is required at the time of appointment. Demonstrated record of effectiveness as a teacher, a record of peer reviewed publication and/or peer-reviewed creative activity which has contributed to the discipline or field of study, to the candidate’s intellectual and artistic development, and to the quality of the academic enterprise; a record of professional service appropriate to the discipline; promise of growth in teaching and research or artistic and creative activity.
Preferred Qualifications
Applicants who have strong records of scholarship supported by extramural funding and a strong peer reviewed publication record are particularly encouraged to apply. Texas Tech University recently surpassed the Hispanic student population threshold necessary for designation as a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI). Experience working with diverse student populations and first-generation students is highly desirable.
