The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T) invites applications for the position of a tenure-track assistant professor position in statistical data science, with an anticipated starting date of August 2024.

The department seeks a promising scholar in data science, with either a strong graduate training or a solid publication record in statistical data science theory and methodology. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in data science, statistics, mathematics, or a closely related discipline, by the time of appointment. They should have demonstrated excellence in research and a strong commitment to teaching.

Statistics is one of the two core competency areas outlined in the department’s strategic plan and data science is a priority growth area. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a research program in statistical data science, mentor graduate students on research in this area, explore opportunities to collaborate with faculty in other disciplines, contribute to data science and statistics education at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and engage in data science initiatives on campus.

Data science is a priority for the department, the college, and the university. This is one of the hires in the general area of data science this year, and we anticipate additional positions in this field in the coming years.
