Instructor or Assistant Professor of Biostatistics – Virginia Commonwealth University

The Department of Biostatistics at Virginia Commonwealth University invites applications for a 12-month, non-tenure track faculty position at the rank of Instructor or Assistant Professor, depending on experience. Candidates are eligible for promotion following requisite service in the role. We seek applicants who will contribute to the department’s educational mission through the teaching core and elective graduate-level biostatistics courses supporting our Ph.D. and M.S. programs and the mentoring of graduate students. The faculty member will share a deep commitment to effective instruction, creation of innovative courses, and mentoring students in research, outreach, and professional development related to the Biostatistics graduate programs. They should demonstrate leadership in developing pedagogical techniques designed to meet the needs of diverse learning styles and intellectual interests, especially in the context of the interdisciplinary research interests that complement the graduate programs. The faculty member will contribute to the department’s educational mission through engagement in the training of students and faculty via the development and implementation of in-person and online courses, mentoring of capstone projects of master-level students, and supervision of dissertation research. The faculty member will teach four to seven courses per year, with consideration given to course preparation and enrollment. Faculty members will serve on Departmental, College, and/or University committees as necessary, as well as in a professional capacity in their field (e.g., reviewer, conference organizer, etc.)

  • Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in Biostatistics, Statistics, or a closely related field.
  • Commitment to teaching excellence and innovative instruction.
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Teaching experience at the masters or doctoral level.
  •  Proven trainee & faculty mentorship skills.
